SAVING ENERGY

Saving energy helps to reduce the amount of resources used to produce them, like fossil fuels.  This helps to improve air quality and human health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change.

Here are some simple ways you can help!

  • Instead of taking your car, try walking, riding a bike or carpooling
  • Exchange your regular light bulbs for fluorescent or LED bulbs in your home, which use less energy and last longer than traditional bulbs
  • Turn off the lights when you leave a room
  • Unplug electronics after you are done using them because they still use energy if turned off and left plugged in
  • Take short showers instead of baths to reduce hot water use
  • Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes
  • Air dry clothes and dishes
  • Sign up for a free home energy assessment that can help you determine where your house is wasting energy at www.longislandgreenhomes.org or call 800-567-2850
  • Look for the ENERGY STAR® label on light bulbs, home appliances, electronics, and other products
