UPDATE 6/28:
Overnight Lane Closures Expected on Long Island Expressway in the Towns of North Hempstead & Oyster Bay, Nassau County
Motorists should expect two lanes closed one night next week on the Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495) in the Towns of North Hempstead and Oyster Bay, Nassau County.
On Monday, July 1, the eastbound left and HOV lanes will be closed beginning at 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning between exit 39 (Glen Cove Road) and exit 40 (State Route 25/Jericho Turnpike).
This single night closure will provide a safe work zone for crews performing maintenance to overhead sign structures. Electronic variable message signs will relay additional information. As with most road and bridge projects, work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
Motorists are urged to slow down and safely move over when approaching roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones. To learn more about the Move Over law and what we’re doing to keep workers and motorists safe in highway construction zones, visit www.ny.gov/workzonesafety.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists and the local community while this project is undertaken.
