Learn where your home's biggest energy efficiency gains can be made. The following three programs provide free home energy assessments which is the first step to improving a home's energy efficiency and reducing energy bills. The assessment will reveal improvements to be made including sealing air leaks, insulation upgrades, installing high performance windows and more.

Take advantage of the PSEG Long Island Energy Star Rebate Program to upgrade to energy saving appliances and products, including lighting, cooling and heating technology. Discover savings on everything from power strips and clothes washer/dryers to smart thermostats and LED lighting.

Solar can help reduce your electricity bills, create stability during periods of electric rate changes and contribute to a cleaner and healthier community by reducing harmful emissions and your carbon footprint.

Subscribe to a Community Solar program: Community solar projects are arrays of solar panels installed in a suitable offsite location. It allows you to benefit from solar without installing panels on your home. (Disclaimer: The Town of North Hempstead does not endorse any specific community solar project. Anyone interested in subscribing to a community solar project is advised to do their due diligence, including understanding and comparing different terms, conditions and electricity bill savings).

Technologies include solar heating, ground source heat pumps (geothermal), and air source heat pumps. Heat pumps are 2-4 times as efficient as conventional oil, propane or electric resistance heating with:

  1. No combustion of fossil fuels
  2. No fuel storage
  3. No carbon monoxide emissions

This article from the NY Times provides detailed information about heat pumps and the process for installing them in your own home.
