Message from North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena

WELCOME TO THE PROJECT INDEPENDENCE WEBSITE!

Here in the Town of North Hempstead we are extremely proud of our older residents and constantly work to support them. One of the many great programs and services we have here in North Hempstead for our seniors is Project Independence. Project Independence is the first comprehensive aging in place initiative to be sponsored by a local government in New York State.  It provides services and opportunities for seniors that help them to live independently, while maintaining socially active and healthy lives.

Project Independence arose as an effort to support seniors who wish to continue living in their own homes and is administered by the Town of North Hempstead Department of Services for the Aging (DOSA). Project Independence brings together local health care providers, human service agencies, social, educational and recreational programs, and local businesses as partners, as it works to meet the needs of seniors seeking support and assistance to live independently, while continuing to live socially active and healthy lives.

On this page, you will find information about Project Independence, links to a variety of other services, a schedule of upcoming events, and articles of interest.

To reach Project Independence, simply dial 311 from anywhere in North Hempstead or (516) 869-6311 from outside the Town. Our operators will take your information and find you the assistance you need.
